OCR SDK Code Samples

Samples Included with the SDK

There are three sample applications included with the SDK:

OCR Sample with Zonal OCR - Available as Visual Studio 2008 solutions written in VB.NET and C#, this Windows Form example illustrates the use of the OCR SDK in obtaining the text output from OCR within specific regions of the source image/page. It also illustrates the use of most of the pre-processing options available for image manipulation.

Convert a Folder of Files Sample - A Visual Studio 2008 solutions written in C#, this Windows Form application provides an example of how the OCR SDK can be used to convert all files of the specified types into searchable PDF, RTF and text files.

Simple Console Application Sample - This simple console application written in VB.NET and C# will convert the sample TIFF file included in the installation into a searchable PDF.

Additional Sample #1

Form Checker - Written in C#, this Windows Form application is an extension of the OCR Sample with Zonal OCR example which shows a simple approach to form recognition based upon matching unique text in the specified region of the image.

Additional Sample #2

COM Wrapper - Written in VB.NET, this solution provides a basic example of wrapping the OCR SDK functionality in a COM interface for use with languages other than .NET.

Additional Sample #3

SharePoint List Monitoring Service - Written in C# this solution provides a simple example of using SharePoint events to respond to the uploading of a file by checking whether it is an image-only PDF and if so generating a searchable version with is then uploaded.

Additional Sample #4

Multi-threading Sample. - Written in VB this solution provides an example of using multiple threads with the SDK.

Note:

1. The sample applications may need updating to reflect installation location of the OCR SDK before they can be built and used. Please refer to the reference guide installed with the OCR SDK for details regarding ResourceFolder and bin_add.

2. The solutions provided are all created using Visual Studio 2008 and  conversion to Visual Studio 2010 is handled automatically by that IDE. Conversion to Visual Studio 2005 is also possible, in this case you must ensure that version 3.5 of the .NET Framework is installed on your system then simply copy the classes/forms into a new project and add the missing references.
